FAQs and Contact
Q: What should I feed my rats?
A: Oxbow with supplements.
Q: What kind of bedding should I buy?
A: I use Exquisicat Paper Crumbles.. Sani-chips is one of the most preferred among rat breeders though it can get messy. Hemp bedding has been proven to be a safe alternative. Pine and Aspen shavings are just as acceptable. I personally would avoid FINE pine shavings, it gets a little too dusty.
Q: What kind of cage is best?
A: I highly recommend Exotic Nutrition 4-story Mansion OR the Midwest Critter Nation. You can buy pans for the critter nation from https://www.bassequipment.com/Store/SCResult/230/Cage_Pans.
Q: Can I feed my rats snacks or scraps from the table?
A: You sure can! You will need to do research on what rats can and cannot eat. I find my mischief enjoy baby rice puffs (sweet potato, bananas, blueberries, kale&spinach), dried mealworms, and chicken wings!
Q: Can I have a lone rat?
A: Absolutely not. It is not recommended for rats to be alone. They need a buddy who gets them from a rat’s perspective. They spend their time grooming each other, playing, and snuggling when their human friend is busy. Rats can become very depressed when alone. They are an empathetic species.
Q: What should I do if my rat(s) are showing symptoms of sickness?
A: Depending on your location, find an exotic vet and quickly bring them in for observation. Rats are very hardy and do not show signs of distress unless the pain proves to be unbearable.
Q: When can I pick up my reserved rats?
A: When they are 6 weeks old. The first 6 weeks are critical in learning proper play habits and self-care while learning how to eat solids and drinking from a water bottle. I am also able to observe whether or not a rat is in great health before leaving for their new home. Dwarves are homed at 10 weeks.
