Hello, everyone! Recently, we've come across more subscribers. Super excited about that. I wanted to give a small update to everyone following our page. I'd like to remind you that we are a very slow-paced rattery. The reason for that is to study our lines and find proper candidates for pets and breeders. We are currently trying to establish our lines. To give you a little more information on how the things I've mentioned above is applicable to the pace of our rattery:
We are holding back most and/or all females from our litters so that we can further prove they are qualified for this program. This is an evaluation and elimination method. We don't want rats that bite or are hormonally aggressive. We are working on improving not only one but 3 other lines as well. Does cannot be bred until they are of age and weight, when they are ideal, we have to pair and the activity itself takes anywhere from 1 week to a month and in certain pairings, longer than a month. Once we've confirmed the doe is pregnant (usually around 2nd week out of 3). It takes 3 weeks for pups to fully develop in the womb and come out into this world. From that point, we observe, check mother and babies. It takes about 4-5 weeks to be developed enough that they face temperament testing. After this process, we then list the babies up on our website to be reserved. They all go home at 6 weeks. Our does are given rest for 2+ months before attempting to be bred again. IT IS QUITE A PROCESS! Our most current litter on the ground will have a limited number of babies available and they will all be males. We need all 3 females in this litter to remain with us for evaluation. We will also hold back a number of bucks. Bear with us, as we root our lines further. The next pairing will have more pups, males and females, to reserve. Pairings this week: Flower x Puppy Black Silvermane Hooded Doe Blue Silvermane Possum Down Under Buck Tinkerbell x Drag Queen Blue Silvermane Berkshire Doe Blue Silvermane Berkshire Down Under Buck If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to email us or inquire on our facebook page: @Madratter Rattery

We have successfully paired two of our does to two of our bucks! The first pairing is between a black variegated doe (carries Burmese) to a Black-eyed Silver Agouti buck (Agouti based Marten). Truth be told, I am nervous about what this litter will throw! Since Burmese is C-loc, we are expecting a possibility of Burmese Marten (?!) or something of the sort. I am not going to know a darn thing about the pups that will be thrown from this mix!
The second pairing is between our Blue patched hairless doe to an Agouti Silvermane buck (carries Dwarf). We are making way for future hairless dwarves or just hairless in general! However, for this litter, we are expecting Silvermane, Agouti, Blue, and Black, all pups being furred. But each and every one of these pups will be 100% heterozygous for the Hairless gene. I would say only 25% of these pups will carry for the Dwarf gene. So around 2nd gen., we will be seeing the results we are trying to achieve. I hope you guys are super excited for these pairings! We also are watching for sound temperament considering these pairings are test breedings. We hope to have something available for you guys in September! The does should be due in about 2 weeks or maybe less. Keep your eyes peeled for pictures to come. Much love, Madratter Rattery. So.... our DU does did wonderfully but their babies went the extra mile. As previously stated in our last post, we anticipated sound babies. Each and every one of them passed! Kissy and licky babies, super curious and motivated, investigating my rings and fingers. Some climbing up to my chest constantly! AND, they are all SO SQUISHY! We did not expect so much success with this line! I'm so excited to solidify this line. As of far, we can confirm from one DU litter that the buck, MAD Rufio carries RED. This means all pups carry RED and 2 have shown to be Beige. MAD Minnie is a carrier of RED as well, which is where the Beige pups appeared. In MAD Acalypha's litter, it has shown that MAD Rufio and the doe are carriers of Blue. Which is how we received 2 Blue pups. We are super ready to work with the girls and guys from this line. I've rehomed 3 girls but held back 6 because they are SO perfect! We will continue to monitor throughout their lives to see what kind of health issues I should be looking out for and improve further down the line. It has been confirmed the line does throw babies with small eyes. We will continue to breed selectively to ensure we reduce the probability of small eyes. This is indeed the best line we have here. There are a few others in the works so we will find out more on how sound their litters are.
I have good news regarding our MAD Minnie x MAD Rufio and MAD Acalypha x MAD Rufio pairings. They are confirmed pregnant and are anticipating the arrival of our "born tuckers" next week!
MAD Acalypha has thrown a litter of healthy, chunky babies who were all literally master tuckers (a form of submission and domestication) since day one. I personally found that to be impressive and is something I sought out for in our pups for years now. To have almost all pups from a new line pass the temperament test is a feat. I have high hopes for her second litter coming around. MAD Minnie will have her first pups here under our care. We are rooting for this litter to also pass the temperament test. I am expecting pups who are blue and black, expressing dominant white spotting, silvermane, and/or down under. I am also expecting pups that will not show DWS, SM, or DU. SO! We have good news. We will continue our breeding program over the summer. However, we will only have 2-4 litters available.
JUNE MAD Minnie x MAD Rufio Black DU Doe Black SM DWS Buck This pairing will yield pups with the Down Under gene, Silvermane gene, and the Dominant White Spotting gene. This is a first litter with MAD Minnie here under my supervision, 3rd pairing with MAD Rufio. We expect wonderful babies from this litter. MAD Acalypha x MAD Rufio Black SM DU Doe Black SM DWS Buck This pairing will yield pups with the Down Under gene, Silvermane gene, and the Dominant White Spotting gene. The previous litter by the same pair were all born tuckers. We hope to achieve the same with this litter. JULY MAD Klaasi x MAD 'Ip' Blue Patched Rec. Hairless Doe Agouti Silvermane Buck (dwarf carrier) This pairing will yield pups with the Silvermane gene with possible patch. Pups will be het for recessive hairless! This will bring us a step closer to founding our hairless line and in the future, dwarf recessive hairless pups. ROK Black Maria x ROK Jack of Hearts Black Variegated Doe Black Roan Buck This pairing will yield variegated and roan pups with possible Burmese. Temperament is so far very sound; the doe is our best doe yet. Most of these pups will be available August/September. We will not have any rats available months of June/July. We do have 4 rats who are still waiting for their forever home. Please inquire about these babies! Happy June! Buttercup (Silvermane Russian Cinnamon) recently gave birth to 8 pups! One seems to be an extreme blazed so hopefully her temperament will check out when the big test comes. We have 4 boys and 4 girls, a perfectly even litter. Some prove to be Aussie Velour and some are standard. We will find out in a little while who expresses Silvermane. This is a test pairing to see the strengths and weaknesses of the particular line.
We still have 4 boys available to a good home. One is a Red Eyed Silver Agouti Dwarf and the other is a Standard Black Hooded. We also have a Black Blazed Buck as well as an American Blue Headspot Buck (Harley line). Top notch personalities! For photos, please visit the "Available Rats" tab.
